DR. DIPAK KUMAR KOLEY

FACULTY ADVISOR, TREKKERS’ CLUB, JGEC

Myself, Dr. Dipak Kumar Kole, Chairman, JGEC Trekkers' Club, have about seven easy to moderate level of trekking experiences e.g. Sandakphu Trek, Phalut via Singalila range Trek, Sairopa Rolta Shield Trek (Himachal Pradesh), Rupam Valley Trek (Buxa Via Santrabari), Paradip to Konark Coastal trek, Kedarkantha trek and few more. Among them Kedarkantha trek was the one that will be etched on my memory for life. It was an unique experience altogether, not only for the marvellous trail, also it was my first opportunity to lead a group of 43 students of my college for trekking. Since the planning of this trek, we had an handful of issues. Owing to political unrest in some parts of the country, the trains we had reservation for onward / return journey got cancelled just before 10 days of commencement of the journey. We could somehow manage to reserve berths in another train. Our return journey on 11 Mar 2020 was almost on the brink of cancellation due to Covid 19 outbreak in the country. However, we did overcome all issues and successfully completed our Kedarkantha Trek with our active and sincere Team effort. After all, our positivity won against all hindrances. I would like to give special credits to Atul and Abir for playing crucial roles for making this a lifetime experience.

Quality is pointless without success, and success is boring without quality. So as a secretary of the club my goal was to make each members fit for the trek so that everyone can complete it and also make the whole plan in a superior way so that everyone can enjoy every bit of it.

Being a strong cup of black coffee in a world that is drunk on the cheap wine of shallow love is what it demands audacity to take the risk. Similarly it took a lot of courage from my side to make my decision of joining the 2018-Singalila Trek by the JGEC Trekkers' Club with 18 other members of mostly 3rd year and 4th year and me being the youngest female among all. But I am glad after witnessing the numbers of female participation in the last Kedarkantha Trek organised by the JGEC Trekkers' Club. To satisfy my wanderlust, I personally roam on the lanes of the hill stations on two wheels but I too believe that going on a trek with the college team is much more comfortable for a female than going with a completely unknown trekkers' group. Being the Secretary of JGEC Trekkers' Club my wish will be increasing the will to trek, mostly among the female students.

Travelling is a part of journey. In my life I did lot of sort trips. But when I gone for trek, its change my perspective about travelling. Bramhatal trek was first trek of mine. I was pretty much excited about this trek and guess what all excitement was fulfilled with the beauties of Himalayan mountains. It was a great experience, interacting with different people in different cultures. Last day in the mountain, after hard climbing on the top of the peak, i promised myself "Milte h Dobara Kahi or Kisi Dusre Peak Par"
